Why is it worth taking an X-ray?

X-rays are the basis of effective treatment

A dentist cannot make a decision on treatment without a proper diagnosis, i.e. finding the source of the problem. In order to find out what it is dealing with, it sometimes has to perform a number of specialized tests. One of the more popular ones is Tooth X-ray. . This examination in the field of imaging diagnostics, non-invasive, quick, showing the patient’s dentition, tooth structure, number of root canals, etc. It is important to note that this examination often reveals problems that a doctor cannot see during a regular dental examination.

The advantage of the examination is its detail – the picture clearly shows the teeth, but also the surrounding tissues, bones of the mandible and jaw, and the temporomandibular joint. This picture allows you to assess the severity of the disease, which is necessary to take further steps.

Effectiveness

X-ray shows the doctor a picture of the condition of the teeth and allows to effectively diagnose the source of the ailment and plan its treatment.

Safety

X-rays are safe for most patients because the dose of radiation used is low. The exception is pregnant women, who are not recommended to undergo this test.

Non-invasiveness

Taking an X-ray takes a few minutes and does not require any special preparation from the patient, therefore it is a quick and often ordered test.

Tooth X-ray image

The most common dental X-ray is the point-of-care X-ray, which looks at one specific tooth. They are used for planning and monitoring of root canal treatment, but also for prosthetic treatment. It allows to assess, for example, whether a tooth can serve as a pillar for a prosthetic bridge.

Cephalometry

This is a photograph of the skull in lateral position. It perfectly shows the patient's occlusion, all bones, soft and hard tissues of the face, hard palate, paranasal sinuses, and cervical vertebrae. The test allows you to make accurate measurements that allow you to prepare the right orthodontic braces. It is performed at the beginning of the therapy, but also afterwards, in order to visualise the effects.

Panoramic dental X-ray

It provides an image of the upper and lower teeth, maxillary sinuses and temporomandibular joints. This type of X-ray will reveal problems such as fractures, cysts, tumors, infections and damage. It allows the assessment of the occlusion correctness. The examination allows treatment planning and sequencing.

Dental tomography

Computed tomography also uses an X-ray beam. The duration of the test is even shorter than other methods, and the result is more precise.
